Viet Nam > South Viet Nam > Vung Tau
I escaped from my country to Canada since 1980. I moved to a few different cities: Winnipeg, Toronto, Vancouver in three different provinces to choose the best place for living so that the environment, the society could replace the remembrance of my hometown: Vung Tau in Vietnam. However, the lovely image of my home town, the memories of Vung Tau is always in my mind and in my heart. Vung Tau is the biggest, famous gorgeous city in the Ba Ria province. Because its advantageous position is a gateway to the Pacific Ocean of provinces in the East to the Southern Vietnam, It converges a lot of potentials to develop quickly and thoroughly sea economy such as offshore oil and gas industry, sea ports and sea transportation, tourism, sunbathing. Due to its positive position, the province is capable of developing synchronically sea route, air route, roads, railway and tubes. It can also be the place where goods are transferred inside and outside the country. Thanks to its convenience in water and land transportation. It is not surprised that this place soon became a trade hub where merchant fleet frequented, but at the same time it was also zone of activities of Malaysian or Chinese pirates or sea-robbers. My hometown: Vung tau has the clear blue sky over the warm beach with the white sands covering along. It has two seasons: The rainy season: from May to October, having southwest monsoon. The dry season: from November to April of the following year, having northeast monsoon. It has tropical monsoon. However, it is really hot and dry under the sunshine especially in dry season. The total coastal line is 305.4 km. The average annual temperature is 27 Celsius degree. Frenchmen, and in particular the two doctors Ravoux and Blane, had been immediately aware of the advantage of Vũng Tàu strategic position as well as its climate, especially for cure, resort and entertainment. Therefore many hotels, entertainment places, clinics had been set up at the same time with military fortifications. Especially in oil and gas and tourist field, infrastructure and service were vigorously built up, gradually met demands of international and national companies working here. Up to now, it got 150 hotels, restaurants, and villas with more than .4000 rooms, of which nearly of international standard, not mentioning more than 1000 common inns, boarding chambers: ready to serve tourists. There is also a vigorous increase in the amount of modern entertainment area that is built up with strong investment. And then, service's level- and morale of tourist business are gradually improved. Every year Vũng Tàu greeted million times of travelers. Especially on weekends and holidays, the output of visitors could reach at 50,000 to 60,000 per day, an amount much higher than the local population. This could be the making that differs from other tourist spot in the country. That is general image of my hometown, which you will be welcome to visit anytime. You would swim under the clear, cool, salty water that is sometimes the big waves taking you to the seashore. The water is very salty so that you would not open your eyes right away if it were accidentally got into. You would enjoy jumping on the ripples that were gradually crawling and creating the musical sound each time they reached the shore. You would surf or playing with different kinds of sea sports. You would take a sunbathing, a relaxation of sitting under a huge umbrella. There are a lot of people doing exercise: walking, running, or tai-chi on the seashore, even swimming in the early morning. In the evening, after you are tired of some varieties of the sea sports, you could take a walk along the beach. So many gifts and souvenirs stores in which the seller showed up and advertised their products that were handmade by the seashells would attract you. They are so gorgeous things that are worth for you to buy and keep as a souvenir. Those lovely images of my hometown are touching my heart every time I think of it. So everywhere I live and whatever I do, I am always waiting for the time coming back to my hometown.
