Canada > Nova Scotia > Cape Breton > Ingonish
Hi, I live in a small town called Ingonish in Cape Breton, which is located in northern Nova Scotia, Canada. Ingonish is a major fishing village, as we live along the Atlantic coast and we're surrounded by mountains on the other sides. I have lived here all my life and have experienced a variety of different things. I've heard people from all around say that Cape Bretoner's (or just Nova Scotian's in general) are really nice and helpful, and I'd have to agree. Ingonish is a very small town, but we are full of awesome things. Because of our size, we all know each other and this makes for a very safe feeling you can't always get in big cities.
I live probably about 500 feet away from the great Atlantic, and it's beautiful here. There are quite a few beaches, including both ocean-swimming and lake-swimming, and tourists flock here in the summer to the many resorts we have. I would definitely saw we're a town that tourists love. In the night the only thing I can ever here is the soft roar of the ocean, or the occasional rain and wind we get. The scenery here is beautiful too. From northern Ingonish we can see Smokey Mountain, and in the fall it's gorgeous when all the leaves are turning colors. I love the weather here too. In the summer it usually pretty warm, but not so hot that it's uncomfortable. It's just perfect and allows for people to spend their long summer days at our golf course, Highland Links Golf Course, which is rated one of the best in Canada. And in the winter we get lots of snow. You may have heard on the news about how Nova Scotia received so much snow the past week (February 19-26). School is always cancelled here, so that's a plus too. Right now, if I try to look out my doors at the back of my house, all I see is snow drifts. And I look up, and there's only about a foot of open space between the snow and my roof. The amount of snow we get is awesome because we have the top ski-hill in Nova Scotia, located right in Ingonish. The schools that Ingonish people attend are also great, and never have a lot of people. Going to school here for the past 12 years of my life ( we have primary so I'm currently in grade 11), has been very safe. My high school/junior high school only has about 250 people, so you know everybody and it's really fun, and bullying is rarely ever a problem. There are a lot of great opportunities for teens and children to get involved in their community here too. In Ingonish we have tennis courts, a baseball field where kids like to play t-ball and softball, we have swimming lessons, a soccer field where we have a summer soccer league, we have the ski hill and the golf course, and awesome beaches. Also through school we have a lot of sports teams, like soccer, basketball, and wrestling. Overall, I've loved living here for my whole life, and when I go to university in a few years, I'm sure going to miss Ingonish. It will always be my true home, no matter where I go or what I do in life.
