Europe > Romania > Iasi
I bet you can’t imagine a city from Romania to be great … or at least nice. Why? Because you probably haven’t heard about any spectacular events in my country. Well, except maybe Dracula’s myth or the fact that Nicole Kidman was here when Cold Mountain was filmed. But I’m telling you that these events aren’t the most significant for our country and especially for my town. Romania has three big parts: Transilvania (the area Bram Stoker wrote and terrified most of the readers) , Romanian Country and Moldavia, parts which are divided again in small areas. Iasi is the "cultural capital" of Romania and the most important city in Moldavia. It’s a city full of life, of course not like Bucharest but the fact that is smaller is actually a quality. It’s a more relaxed atmosphere, the people aren’t so stressed out, the streets are more clean. Of course sometimes I’m just sick of the same places...Because I thought my city was boring and insignificant and I was wrong. A foreign student opened my eyes when he expressed his opinions about our “charming city”. I couldn’t believe my ears! How could my city be “charming”? But then I understood and I realized he was right. Iasi is a “young” city because of it’s huge amount of students who study at well-known universities here. I recently found out that 25% from the Romanian people who work at Microsoft studied at a Informatics faculty in Iasi. It’s quite amazing. Full of entertainment you can always choose something to do with your spare time. Visit a museum, see a play or a movie ,go to the Opera or even go clubbing , there is also something you can do. There is also a place in Iasi dedicated to the lovers…a really romantic park where you can easily relax with the person you truly care. How couldn’t I love Iasi? It’s the town I live in and the town in which my childhood memories developed. I am a teenager but I know that from this point of view no other city can compare with mine. I don’t care if New York has 3 Empire State Buildings, if Paris has more than one Eiffel Tour or if Rome has 2 Colosseums. I was born in Iasi and here are all of my, bad and good, memories so this makes it my favourite town. Even though I travel a lot and I see gorgeous landscapes or extravagant buildings and, who knows?, maybe someday I will find a place to live outside Iasi and Romania, my home town will always have something special. The warm people , the life not always great ,not always full of opportunities, simple, but never boring, ; this are some of the few things I know I will always remember about Iasi, the place I lived since I was born and yet still amazes me!
