United States > Louisiana > Carencro
Carencro is a quiet, unassuming town situated just north of Lafayette, Louisiana. As easy as the next town. But, don’t mistake quiet for uninteresting. Despite the fact we don’t yell it from the rooftops does not mean our community isn’t humming with activities and businesses thriving. Living in Carencro my entire life has made it hard to leave, if even for a short vacation. This rural Mecca of Acadian culture has thrived since the late 1800s and will continue to do so because of people like me. People who know and appreciate the struggle it took to build Carencro into the town it has become. A town or merit and as recognizable as any big city. From the Carencro Country Christmas, a traditional family event, that takes place throughout the downtown district of Carencro. The Mardi Gras parade that takes place the Sunday before Fat Tuesday. Carencro is proud to host many krewes and bands that take to the streets on that blessed day. The whole carnival merriment of it all and the festive celebration that takes place that day. It all makes Lent just a little easier on us all. Couldn’t have that or the feelings that come along with Mardi Gras anywhere else in the country. Carencro breeds stars. Everyone from Marc Breaux who long ago was a choreographer for Fred Astaire, Bob Hope, The Supremes. Well up till today with Kevin Faulk, running back for the New England Patriots. I believe it’s the community always striving for more making the most of what we have with the talents we are blessed with. Carencro is disputed as the “softball capital of the world” because of the more than 3,000 games played every year at Carencro’s Pelican Park. People from 48 states making their way to Carencro to play tournaments at the beautiful facility constructed on several acres nestled inside our town. The lights and cheers can be heard for miles when the four diamonds are lit up with the mass crowds that gather from all around the country. Some how I could never envision living anywhere else. From the winding bayous, ethereal swamps, prairies and forest that leave everyone that visits in awe and wanting to never leave. No one can resist the timeless face of the town that smiles at visitors and natives alike. The air always filled with the sounds of the south, Cajun and Zydeco music that tugs at the heartstrings of both young and old. Always spinning and weaving tales of both old and new sending people dancing across their floors, day and night, leaving everyone longing for more. Times spend in part of the parish is a time to be cherished and kept forever. Communities of close-knit family living and thriving like the first settlers of this land. Helping and growing together to achieve all the opportunities of the big city at the same time keeping the charms of a small town. Carencro, an unruffled town with much in the way to the future of itself and the folks that live here.
