Surrounded by the ore-rich red mountains that give Iron County its name, Cedar City, UT is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. Cedar City it at the crossroads of the scenic West. Zion National Park, with its tall spires, cool water and challenging hikes, is only one hour away. Bryce Canyon National Park (ANOTHER National Park within easy distance), with its striking desert scenery and fascinating sandstone structures, is a short hour and a half drive. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is only two and-a-half hours away. There are numerous National Monuments and State Parks within two hours of driving on good roads through varied landscapes. And plenty of backcountry for the more adventurous. Skiing on superior powder is only a forty-five minute drive up the mountain to Brianhead, while summer water sports can be enjoyed at nearby Quail or Navajo Lakes (Lake Powell is only 2 hours away). There is plenty of fishing (during the summer AND winter ice-fishing) and hunting (when in the appropriate season).

Cedar City has small town charm and is surrounded by the ruggedly beautiful, but it is also home to Tony award-winning theater. Yes, our little podunk town’s Utah Shakespearean Festival won a Tony award for Best Regional Theater. We also have a beautiful, new performance hall and complex. SO, if the performing arts are of interest, you can find good quality entertainment.

It’s a place for all seasons, and even though I have only been here five years, I think of it as home. You won’t find a huge mall, massive sports arena (Southern Utah University’s modern Centrum Arena is large enough) or commercialized glitz, but you will find plenty to do.
