I had always dreamed of having a life outside of Philadelphia. A place away from the traffic, the city, the suits all in black meandering their way through the tiny hamlets of the inner old part of town. The ghetto began to take over the perfection I remembered as a child, the old hot dog stands in Polish town my father would drive me down to experience my heritage, and how it became inaccessible and unwanted to the new clan that had moved in. These dreams became reality when college was completed and I needed a change, a place for my bare feet to walk that wasn't covered with glass, where air wasn't gray because of the pollution. Packing the car up, I drove cross country to the promised land, Arizona. A place untouched my these city dwellers. A place where I could make for myself, where dreams were possible, where oxygen filled up the lungs of the dreamers to dream, and the sun brought a new meaning to warmth, freedom, and beauty. Yes, this place, this new land, this Chandler Arizona. Filled with old town charm where the sidewalks which only span a few blocks aren't cluttered with suits. They inhibit bicyclists fast-walkers, and the occasional couple filled with admiration for one another, arm in arm. Where some has been developed on with new homes, and the rest still farmland where the sun rises over the mountains on your way to work, and sets on your way home to your garden paradise. Traffic does not seem to stop your regular day, and markets fill your kitchen with fruits grown on the farm next door. People are there to help you, you desire advancement in your job, who better to ask than the person you work for who, like you, has come from far away desiring to make a new life for themselves. In a land where it hardly rains, where it stays warm all year round, and where you can make a true stand for what you believe in, who you truly are, and what you want. Where else than Chandler Arizona. Meredith K Submitted: Wednesday 28th January 2004, 2:55 PM
