United States > Ohio > Chillicothe
As you enter the ballpark the sights, sounds, and smells of baseball fill your senses. The smells of fresh cut grass and ballpark food flood your nose. The roar of the crowd and the crack of the bat bring a smile to your face. The best thing of all is the sights you will see. It is baseball the way it is meant to be played. Nine men from each team are playing the game, but not for money. They play it for different reasons. Some of them hope to be spotted by a major league scout. Still others do it because it is all they know. However, they all do it because they love the game more than anything else. It’s Chillicothe Paint’s Baseball, a Chillicothe tradition. Baseball is just one of the many attractions to this terrific city. We have many great places to see, things to do, and enough to keep you occupied for a visit, or a lifetime. We pride ourselves as a smaller city, but we remember our heritage as Ohio’s first capital. We keep up with the changing times here, but we will never forget our history. Around 30,000 people visit the Hopewell mounds in Chillicothe each year. This historical site has many “earthworks” all different shapes and sizes that serve as remnants of the Hopewell Culture. This culture represents Native-Americans living in North America between 200 BC and 500 AD. Although different, they all shared a common set of beliefs and values known as the “Hopewell Culture”. Over two-million visitors have witnessed the amazing outdoor drama known as Tecumseh! The focus of this drama is Tecumseh, the Shawnee leader in the late 1700’s. It tells of the struggles that he has defending his homeland. It is produced by Grammy recipient, Allan W. Eckert. The sound was recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra. This is a must for any visitor to Chillicothe. This production has been labeled, “one of the most mesmerizing dramas in the nation”. In addition to all of these great attractions, Chillicothe has many other things to offer. We have a myriad of local shops and restaurants to enjoy. Because of our location in the foothills of the Appalachian mountain chain we are surrounded by local parks, bike paths, and nature retreats. Our four seasons allows the visitor to get to view beautiful scenery all year round. Visit our Historic District and you will see Chillicothe past, present, and future. Lastly, the people make the town. Kind people with a great attitude toward life enrich the entire experience. I have lived in Chillicothe all of my life, and I would want it no other way. If you are looking for a place to settle down, or a place to get away to, look no further than Chillicothe. We are tradition, beauty, community, and life at its fullest extent. We are Chillicothe and proud of it!
