I can remember back to when I was a small girl playing on the sidewalk of second street and the freedom of feeling safe. Even though the world has changed in the last 30 some years. You can still feel safe in this town. The downtown square is lined with shops that have a hint of older days. As you drive through this town you can see by their landscaped lawns and refurbished homes that they take pride in their town.

Large Maples trees line the streets that take your breath away in the fall. All the colors of red, orange, and yellow. You'll find in the spring a generous amount of trees blooming, such as Magnolias, Plums, and Dogwoods. Lawns are bursting with fresh new colors.

When you are out shopping, or stopping in for a bite at one of the many little family owned restaurants. You'll find the town folk are friendly and almost always smiling. It has enough to keep you entertained yet not so large that you loose sight that we all share the world together. Although I live away now, I was happy my children grew up where they knew people shared lives and participated as a community. Where they pay homage to history as well as the future.

The museum is well kept and tells the tales of this small town as it has grown. When July comes you don't even notice the heat. Everyone in town is bustling about getting ready for the " Old Glory Days ". If you have a chance to stop in on that day you'll be glad you did. Families will be out enjoying the many actives going on down town. They usually always have a nice line of entertainment, a dance one night, rides, parade, and a wonderful fireworks display the last night.

In my travels I have been through and even visited many different towns. Still I have not seen the same amount of character that Clinton has. In it's streets, in it's homes, in it's people, or in it's countryside. It is hard to describe the feeling. I close my eyes and I am sitting on the front porch taking a deep breathe of fresh clean air and listen to the sounds of dogs barking and children playing, the leaves rustling in the trees. What I don't hear is yelling, sirens, traffic.

Clinton lies in what is called the Golden Valley. It's a small rural town that has managed to keep up with the times without losing sight of the more traditional values. Small farms surround the town. Not far down 7 Hwy is Truman Lake where you can swim, fish, or camp. Your only an hour and half from Kansas City going north, or a couple of hours from Branson going south, 45 minutes to Sedelia where the state fair is held every year. A great location if you want to visit the busy cities for a day and return home for a quiet nights sleep.

Clinton Missouri was voted 'All American City ' in 2000. Which means it was in the top ten cities to visit and live in. Something I had always known. Yes, I have to say my home town is the definition of what a home town should be. Warm, friendly, fun, and comfortable. I am at my happiest when I am going home to.. My Home Town.
