You've all heard the popular song, "My Home's In Alabama". Well, my home actually is in Alabama, Hartford, Alabama, to be exact. Hartford is a small town which is centered around a "town square" with a water fountain and a gazebo. It is very attractive in a "Mayberryish" sort of way.

It is a place where you know everyone you run into at the grocery store or the post office. There are two banks in town, and new customers are always amazed when the tellers call them by name.

There are those who cannot wait to graduate from high school and leave the small town life behind them, but there are also many, like me, who wouldn't want to live anywhere but here.

Every year at Christmas, our town hosts a special day in the town square called "Hometown Holidays". This is anxiously looked forward to each year, as it is a time for the residents of Hartford to get out in the fresh air in the picturesque square, and be entertained by singers, dancers, craft vendors, and food vendors, and also have a chance to win one of many drawings throughout the day. At the end of the day, as it is just beginning to get dark, the town Christmas tree is lit by a specially chosen "Christmas Queen".

Although there is not much in the way of entertainment available in our little town, there is much available in larger towns only a short drive from here. We have the advantage of small town life with larger attractions within reach if desired.

The entire population of Hartford stands behind the high school football, baseball, and basketball teams. Sports are a very big part of small town life, and are viewed as social events by most residents. In late August, through early November, all Friday night activities take a backseat to the Friday night football games. Then basketball season takes over and carries us into Spring, when baseball rules. The team has it's traditional rivalries, which adds to the excitement of the games.

Yes, my home is in Alabama, and I feel honored to be a resident of the greatest little town in the South.
