Every place you live has it's own music. The underlying tone on which the heart of the place runs. My family has moved around allot, from one crappy small town to another. When I fill out a job application I have to add another page just to write down all the schools I have been to.

So why write abut this town? Because the music is different. It's a "stay here" sort of music that's fed by the individual souls of the folks that live in this place. I felt it when we moved here and I guess it is the reason we have stuck around so long (six years, a record when it comes to my family).

We aren't a religious family and never have been. Never been anywhere long enough to want to connect ourselves to a church. So when we moved to Layton the Mormon community jumped upon us like lions on the body of a gazelle. We let them come over and tell us their beliefs because we needed connections here and we always worked really hard to hide our cigarettes and anything else that would make us appear unclean when they came over.

Still they made our community diverse. We have Latino's, Japanese, Buddhists, Muslims. And what keeps us together as a relatively stable community is just as much not our differences as it is them. It is part of what makes the song of our lives, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
