I cannot begin to explain what part of living in Lehighton I love the most. Maybe it is the close-knit town people who would help anyone get through any situation. Or it could possibly be the beautiful surrounding scenery such as the forests and streams. These are only two of the things that make the town great and I could write a novel describing the many other attributes of the town.

Lehighton is a tiny town compared to some of the neighboring towns and cities having a population of less than 6,000 people. The small community makes an ideal place to grow up. I have lived in this town all of my life and experienced great things growing up here. It is safer than most other towns and cities. Of course no matter where you live you are going to still have your criminals and problems, but the people around here look out for each other. If there is trouble your neighbor is the first person to jump and help do whatever they can to aid you. These are the type of people you would only find in a small town, but a lot of that probably has to do with their heritage.

Most of the residents in Lehighton have a Pennsylvanian Dutch Heritage. They take pride in what they say and do. They are also not afraid to get their hands dirty when the time comes. Working hard to get done what needs to be done seems to be a necessity around here. The small country store that resides in Franklin Township (which is considered part of Lehighton) sells homemade pies and other baked goods. Local fire companies hold monthly events where everyone can get together and have fun. One of the most prized yearly events that are held is the block shoot where local hunters have the chance to win new guns and other hunting equipment.

This is high among rankings of the best things about the town. There is tons of beautiful forest area to hunt in. White Tail Deer, Turkey and Black Bear are some of the most sought hunted animals.

Forest is not only good for hunting but also hiking and camping. There are some great campsites in or around Lehighton. There also are a lot of hiking grounds at Beltsville State Park. I love spending the day in the woods hiking up the marked paths there. The waterfalls are beautiful to sit and watch and listen to so soothing and relaxing.

I do not think most people realize that such a small town can have such a large punch. Lehighton is not just a “hick town” as some people refer to it, as it is so much more. So many interesting things to see and do from the forest to the countryside and I cannot believe that this is my hometown. Now I challenge you to come and take a peek for yourself at my little slice of paradise.
