United States > Pennsylvania > Wexford > McCandless
The name of the town in which I live is, the Town of McCandless. This is a town within the city of Wexford. Farmers settled Wexford many years ago. Some of these farms are still operational and are being operated by the current generations of those settlers. All that remains of the others is a street that bears the family name of the settlers. Others only exist in the folklore of the community.
We have our own police department and several fire stations. We also have our own ambulance authority. There is a major hospital within our boundaries and many nationally known hospitals within driving distance. These offer the service of the life flight helicopter. Wexford is located in the southwestern part of Pennsylvania. Because of our location, our weather is a mixed bag. We experience all four seasons. Our spring is wet and rainy. The result of our gloomy spring is an abundance of beautiful flowers and shrubs. Then comes summer. We have had great summers and not so great summers. Sometimes it so hot you can’t wait to be in air conditioning. Other times its breezy and not very hot. Warm nights are great for a round of golf or a ball game or just catching fireflies. Fall descends upon us in the form of beautiful colors. All of our shade trees turn to magnificent shades of red, orange and yellow. Add in the evergreens and you have an artist’s palette. Fewer sights are more beautiful. In the winter after we get a big snowstorm, all of the tree branches are covered with snow. If you go into the woods and look up, it looks like someone sprayed the trees with spray paint. Every little branch is covered with snow! We have a lot of wild animals in my backyard. Wild turkeys, deer, snakes, groundhogs and squirrels are only a few if them. We have a bunch of creeks around here. They are deep in some parts and shallow in others. I love to walk in the creek and pick up rocks and once in a while catch a fish. My town is great! There are a lot of things to do for all seasons. So if you get a chance, come and visit!
