United States > South Carolina > Charleston > Moncks Corner
Have You always wanted to live in a city that you always felt secure
in? Well, if you have than Moncks Corner, South Carolina is the place for
you. In the early to mid seventeen hundreds some monks came to South Carolina to get away from all of the violence in the
world. They settled in a small place just thirty miles from Charleston. That
is how Moncks Corner got it's name from.
Moncks Corner is a moderate sized city with a population of 142,311.
It is surrounded by other several larger cities. It is not a city so small that it only has a gas station and a corner
store. Moncks Corner has all of the major gas stationed like Hess,
Citgo, and Speedway. It has grocery stores like Bi-lo, Food Lion, and Piggly
Wiggly. And the much larger stores like Wal-Mart, Big-Lots, and a
K-mart and the fast food places are lined up by the dozens, McDonalds,
Hadees, Burger King, Taco Bell and much more. And for you small town folks the family owned stores are also pretty
popular, we have Citi Trends, Shoe Shack, Johnny's trucks, lawn care places and styling salons.
My town by far is not a racist community. We have Caucasians, African
Americans, Latin's and even a few Asians and Europeans. Most everyone knows each other and you cannot go down a street and not see someone that you
know. You also cannot go down a street and not see a church. I did not realize how much of a religious community
my community was until a few years ago, Moncks Corner has over 75
churches. From Christian, to Baptist, to Catholic, to gothic and even a few self prayer churches for those who believe in something other.
Even though Moncks Corner has a lot of good sides, one of its ugliest sides are it's
climates. In the summer tome Moncks Corner can get up to an astounding 112
degrees. And in the winter it can get extremely cold, Moncks Corner has had it's times where it has gotten into the
negatives. But the golfers don't really seem to care about the
temperature, for there are about six par4 and par3 courses.
Moncks Corner also has great schools. All of the teachers are board
certified, and all of them care about their students. Moncks Corner is also a scenic place for you nature
lovers. WE have Santee Cnal Park,a wildlife park with a canal running through
it. There is also Francis Marion National Forest a government protected park that contains over 500 acres of beautiful
forests. Finally there is Cypress Gardens. Cypress Gardens was purchased
from the state by Moncks Corner in 1996. It is an extremely large area of swamp and marshland.
Even though most people have never heard of the small town 30 miles north of
Charleston, (and most people cant pronounce it correctly either) there are several good things you should know about my town and I have told you a good bit of
them. Moncks Corner is a very beautiful place and anyone would love and be proud to live
here!
