This is New Freedom, Pennsylvania. I first moved to this quaint town two years ago with my mom and little sister. I was unhappy with the move because I was in the middle of high school, and separated from my friends.

It wasn't long until I fell in love with the charm of this small town. Literally, if you blink, you'll miss it. We live next to a horse farm, and being a lover of horses, it didn't take much to fall in love with the place. A look out of our bay window would reveal green, rolling hills, horses grazing gently in a picturesque pasture, beautiful trees, and more times than not, a glorious sunset.

As if that wasn't enough, the town itself is wonderful. It is so small that everywhere you go, you are recognized. The local convenience store employees know you by name, and you will always hear gossip about people you know at the restaurants. The people themselves are mainly farmers. They will always stop and chat when you are taking a walk, or if they see you somewhere. You can always hear their creaky old trucks from miles away.

New Freedom is overrun with horses, cows, and other farm animals. I love waking up in the morning to a rooster crowing in my backyard, and hearing horses thundering hooves outside my window. That is some of the charms of the country. In the summer mornings, waking up to birds singing beautiful songs in my yard is a treasure to me. In a deep city, you just don't get that type of pleasure. But in New Freedom, nature is the essence.

Another great thing about New Freedom is all the restaurants. If you are hungry, especially for Italian food, New Freedom is the place to be. For some reason, we have four Italian carry-outs and restaurants in our neighborhood. It's wonderful though, because if you don't like one stores pizza, you just order from one of the other three.

I was not born and raised in New Freedom, so my love for this small, country town came to me late in life. I am glad now that I had to move. I appreciate waking up every morning and looking out my window at the beautiful countryside and sunrise. I love sitting down in the evening and watching the stars come out on the horizon, and the sun sink down to the ends of the earth. New Freedom is truly a little piece of heaven on earth in my opinion. No other place in the world carries the same air. Here in New Freedom, we are proud to say that we are rednecks. But hey, what's wrong with a little fresh air?

New Freedom really brought a new freedom to me: the freedom to feel at ease in a world that never stops spinning.
