Why my hometown of Pine Bush, New York ROCKS! Pine Bush, New York is a classic, charming Victorian hamlet in the mountains of upstate New York, about a 1-1/2 hour drive from New York City. You would never know sophisticated NYC is so nearby this quaint, rural town. If you’re a native of Pine Bush, you most likely own an enhanced truck, eat Jell-O molds for dessert and still swim in the water holes down by the “crick”. My little hometown, population 1200, is famous for its scores of UFO sightings. Pine Bush was featured numerous times in Omni magazine. I even knew a girl in high school who saw a UFO in her backyard field. “Butch” Hunt, the local barber, saw a flying saucer down by Hardenburg River when he was a kid. There are wall-to-wall pictures in his barbershop to prove it. The Pine Bush barbershop is a treasure trove of memorabilia for the extraterrestrial fan. Pine Bush was a splendid place to grow up. You could enjoy a band concert in the lil’ town square gazebo. Listen to crickets on your front porch at night. Go to an alien-abduction support group, or drive to a pretty spot near a farm, in the woods where all you hear are owls and the rushing river. Perhaps you could have a drink at one of the local pubs located in old houses from the time of the Revolutionary War. Pine Bush is fresh air, unlocked screen doors, the Firemen’s Annual Carnival, farms and horse stables, and antique Americana. It’s familial and quiet on the surface, and if you dig a little, you’ll discover a thriving artists' colony, and even a few retired soap opera stars living in A-frame cabins in the woods. Home of the “Bushmen” football team, Pine Bush is rural homespun far from the hustle bustle of New York City. Like the fresh-faced “girl-next-door”, all freckle-faced and innocent, Pine Bush has not lost its one-traffic-light charm.
