As I drive across the bridge every day after school, I see a majestic island awaiting me. With crystal blue water and a clear sky, I can’t imagine living anywhere else. The island that I live is off the coast of Southwest Florida and is a place like no other. Though I was not born here, I cannot image my adolescent years anywhere else. In this quaint town I have made everlasting friends and developed an amazing love for small town life.

On Sanibel, there are many concerned citizens doing everything in their power to keep it as preserved as possible. In fact, over 60% of our island is a nature preserve. Though this is a nice statistic, it means nothing until you see it yourself. Being able to wake up in the morning and eat breakfast looking out your window seeing alligators cruising, beautiful birds fishing for food and the sunset rising is an amazing feeling. The peaceful atmosphere causes your day to start off right every morning regardless of the activities buzzing in my house. Also, the wildlife preserves are picture perfect open to visitors all the time.

The bond that citizens have with people in their community is one like no other. The warmth that you feel just being able to go anywhere and see a smiling familiar face makes you be proud to be a part of island. Going to school with a group of amazing friends also made a deep impact on me. Now, no matter what I am feeling I can call one of them up and talk about anything and experience anything with them.

Some assume small town life isn’t for them but I believe that you have to experience something before you can speak. Living in such an amazing place makes it hard for me to believe that anyone could feel this way. Without this move my heart would have never opened in the way that it did.
