Summer evenings. Grilling hot dogs. The soft whistling of the homing pigeons circling overhead. The flutter of a migratory bird. The scent of the lilacs. The cool lake breeze.

St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Population 60,000. Located at the I-94/I-696 junction puts us “twenty minutes from everywhere.” The little bitty burb on the edge of the Detroit-metro area is a beautiful family city that is small enough to wrap everyone with the community feeling. I should know. I still live in the brick house my grandfather built here fifty-four years ago.

Situated on the shores of Lake St. Clair, we attract boating enthusiasts from across the state. The Nautical Mile serves up food from some of the finest restaurants in the area and our historical Memorial Day parade is one of the biggest in the state. With over 100,000 people gathered every year it attracts state and local politicians to our small community. The boating spectacular–A Festival of Lights, Art in the Park, and the Harper Classic Car Cruise, help to bring the community together every summer. City Fireworks light the sky two or three times a season, and if they’re not big enough for you, a quick jaunt into Detroit will take you to the Freedom Festival, a joint festival that we willingly share with Windsor, Canada, our neighbor to the north.

The warmth of the people and family friendly atmosphere makes me proud to call this city, “home.”
