Suttons Bay, Michigan

My town is called Suttons Bay. It is a tiny town, rather a village in Northern Michigan. I feel that this town is extraordinary because of its location, the people, and the events. The area that I live in is one the most beautiful places on the map. We have a beautiful waterfront of bays, lakes, rivers, and even Lake Michigan. There are lots of farms, and gorgeous fields everywhere. Up here we grow vegetables and fruits and livestock flourishes too. We are also, famously, cherry pickers. Traverse City and surrounding areas (like Suttons Bay) are considered the "Cherry Capitol of the World." Quite a title if you me. My absolute favorite time here is fall. To look out my and see the trees make me so lucky to live here. The trees, though now are bare, in fall are spectacular. The reds are so deep, the yellows so bright, the oranges, so full... It is the most attractive of all places.

Here in Suttons Bay we get a lot of tourists, which we like to call "fudgees." See up here in Michigan we sell a lot of fudge... The people in this area are very dependent on the tourist markets. Most people make all their real money in the Summer. So for eight months of the year we are a tiny village, and for the other four we are a slightly tiny busy-bodied, bad-driver infested village. It is perfect.

Now I get to tell you about my favorite part of this town, the people. I don't think that in any other place there are so many successful, dedicated, caring people. When a needy family needed a new house because their old one burnt down, the town bought and built another. When a child was diagnosed with cancer the town and school held a fundraiser, and he made through the battle. In our town we have artists, writers, an astronaut, lawyers, bankers, fathers, mothers, and so much more.

The adults here are incredible but the children (like me) are even better! There is so much talent in this tiny place. We have incredible bands and amazing plays and musicals. The talent in athletics is wonderful too. Lots of state champions are from Suttons Bay. The Cheerleading squad has reached new heights in the past few years too. I honestly don't know of a place with more gorgeous children either. Everywhere you turn there is another perfect face or body or mind. The children are the future so the one ahead of us is bright and so incredibly encouraging. I pray and hope I will be lucky enough to live here for the rest of my life, it would so great to have a family here.

People here are actually really friendly too. If a stranger needs a place to sleep or directions, they can get it from somebody. In Suttons Bay we have one grocery store, one movie theatre, a few restaurants, some local shops... and not much more. We have a simple town, full of complex people. Suttons Bay is a perfect example of perfect because we aren't... but we don't admit it. This is my town. You'll like it here.
