Welcome to my town. The town of Walla Walla is so nice that legend has it that the native Indians named the town twice! Here at the foothills of the Blue Mountains of Southwestern Washington, we live a life that is full of laid back attitude. Our little town of only 15,000 people take pride in the fact that families have built strong foundations here for over 150 years. We may be small in size, but this town really has the mindset to show the country that we are living large in the heart of wheat and apple country.

To start with, my town has the best little downtown in the nation. Our streets are lined with hundred-year-old buildings that display the writings of businesses come and gone like a winter chinook. We take pride in our downtown and the nation took notice in 2001. Walla Walla won the national "Best Downtown in America" award. You could see the excitement in our citizen's eyes when we got several signs to put up around the downtown area.

Next, we have three quality post-secondary educational facilities that are some of the best in the state and the Pacific Northwest. Walla Walla College is located at the eastern part of town and is one of the oldest colleges in the state. Students as far away as the midwest enroll here for their flight school which is nationally recognized. Kids form all over the western portion of the country send their children to Walla Walla for a quality education. We also have Whitman College which is a private university of only 2,000 students. Here students and staff have raised over 127 million dollars over the past decade to better the school and the grounds around campus. Just this year, Whitman's graduating percentage jumped to an all-time high of 86%, which makes it the number one in the Pacific Northwest. Walla Walla Community College brings home the prize as being a small school with big plans for the students enrolled. They work directly with Washington State University and Eastern Washington University to make sure that students succeed in field of study that not only benefit them, but the community as well.

Finally, Walla Walla is becoming the next big wine capital of the nation. We have an unprecedented amount of wineries in our town and the surrounding area. With over 30 wineries, the nation took notice when The USA Today ran an article back in June of 2003 calling Walla Walla the next Napa Valley. Real Estate has skyrocketed and this region produces over 90% of the wines purchased domestically in the US. Wine is such a prominent part of everyday life here that Walla Walla Community College has built and begun a vinticulture program that put a 150 million dollar winery on campus and has students as far as Alaska coming in and grabbing a piece of the next Napa Valley.

In all, my little town has everything I need to make starting and raising a family a reality. With a small town atmosphere and a big city flair it makes the foothills a great place to live.
